It's easy for Maddie to remember, considering she's only ever been with three people. Two, well before she'd ever met Tyler. So there was no doubt in her mind, and really, no possible way that anyone else was the father of this baby. She feels awful that she's waited so long to come by, but it was incredibly difficult to find him when she'd never even gotten more than a first name.
How lucky that she'd caught that interview when she had, otherwise she probably would have given up.
